Travelling to Quorn and not sure what to do? Here’s my guide to one of South Australia’s most underrated country towns. A not so hidden, hidden gem.
About Quorn
Quorn is a tiny town with a whole lot of charm and honestly, it is one of my favourite places to visit. Located about 336km north of Adelaide, it’s roughly a four-hour drive and the perfect excuse for a country getaway.
Home to around 1,200 people, Quorn is packed with history, character and good old-fashioned country hospitality. Fun fact: it once had four pubs. These days there are two left standing, and both are worth a visit.
Whether you’re heading through the Flinders Ranges or planning a weekend away, here’s what I think you shouldn’t miss.
Enjoy a Gin Tasting at Flinders Gin
If you like gin, this one’s a no-brainer. Flinders Gin creates a range of locally inspired gins that capture the flavours of the region. My personal favourite is the Quandong Gin!

Try Baked Goods from a Heritage Oven
The Spirit of the Flinders Bakery is well worth a visit. They serve up delicious baked goods, including pasties, pies and sourdough, all baked in a heritage wood-fired oven. Even better, the oven hadn’t been lit since 1957 before the bakery brought it back to life.
Sip Cocktails at Scruffy Fella
You probably wouldn’t expect to find one of the coolest bars ever to exist out in Quorn, but Scruffy Fella has pulled it off.
The cocktails here are genuinely some of the best I’ve had anywhere. I couldn’t stop thinking about them afterwards. In fact, I went back for another round… and then another. They also sell men’s grooming products and gifts.

Ride the Historic Pichi Richi Railway
You can’t visit Quorn without hopping aboard the Pichi Richi Railway. The historic trains wind through some incredible scenery and it’s one of those experiences that you won’t forget. Choo Choo!
Watch the Quorn Silo Light Show
As the sun goes down, head over to the silos and catch the light show. The projections look pretty spectacular lit up in contrast to the night sky.

Enjoy Tea on the Terrace
If slowing down is more your style, grab a pot of tea and some freshly baked scones on the terrace. It’s simple, old-fashioned and exactly the kind of thing that suits Quorn perfectly.
Go Bushwalking
There are plenty of walking trails around Quorn, from easy strolls to more challenging hikes.
On our last visit we tackled Devils Peak. The views were absolutely worth it, but as someone who doesn’t do a lot of cardio, I can confirm it was a challenge. Bring water, wear decent shoes and prepare to earn those views.

Stop by Quandong Café
You can’t leave town without trying a quandong tart. The Quandong Café serves great food and is a lovely spot to stop for breakfast, lunch or coffee before heading off on your next adventure.
Hit the Golf Course
Not every place you vist can boast a golf course, but Quorn can. If having a swing is your thing, pack the clubs and enjoy a relaxed round in the outback.
Check Out the Local Pubs
Country pubs just hit differently. Pop into one (or both) of Quorn’s remaining pubs for a cold pint and/or a classic pub feed.
Window shop the Old Bookstore
Sadly, the old bookstore isn’t open anymore, which is a real shame because it was once one of Quorn’s hidden gems. Even so, it’s still worth peeking through the windows and admiring the character of the building.
Cool Off at the Local Pool
Visiting during summer? The Quorn District and War Memorial pool is the perfect place to cool down after a day of exploring. Nothing beats jumping into the water after spending the day in the outback heat.
Wander the Main Street
One of my favourite things to do in Quorn is to simply go for a mainy. Take in the historic buildings and giant webster pack (you’ll know it when you see it).

Quorn might be small, but it’s full of surprises. Between a heritage train, great gin, amazing cocktails, country pubs, bushwalks and beautiful scenery, it’s a place that’ll have you counting down to go back.

Safe travels ! x Nat
